Keep Up

Keep Up

Keep up is on a mission to help local folks and organisations collectively restore small pockets of land for community use.

About us

Across the UK there are thousands of disused outdoor spaces; residential and commercial leftover places that no one has laid claim to. That’s why with Keep up, we want to experiment with alternative funding models to support the sustainable restoration of this land. The spaces we're interested in are neglected, small, neighbourhood nooks that could offer a variety of uses: they could be places where you meet and eat with others, have a bbq, play sport, or enjoy art.

How it all started

This idea started to form when I first moved to London and spent most of my weekends walking the city. As a young architectural designer, I was fascinated by the city but equally disheartened when I learned about the negative effects of neglected community spaces. While community centres were closing down and youth programmes were losing their funding, I would find dozens of underused outdoor spaces with the potential to benefit local residents. I started to do research and quickly found that this was a systemic problem that wasn't improving quickly. A few years later, following a global halt on physical connection and an increased longing for community, the need for local and public outdoor spaces is undeniable.

We long to see residents have ownership and fun in the neighbourhoods they call home, so our hope is that the restoration of land would lead to the embrace of the marginalised and help cultivate a sense of belonging.
