Karibu

karibu is an online gift company that supports independent businesses and foodbanks.

About us

We think gifts matter and Moonpig doesn’t quite cut it. So, we find and buy products from brilliant independent makers and businesses, sell them as gifts and donate 10% of our profits to foodbanks.

How it all started

We launched karibu in the middle of lockdown as there was a massive need at the time - small businesses were forced to shut up shop and food banks were struggling with a huge surge in demand due to the pandemic. We were stuck at home with plenty of time on our hands so decided to do something about it. One year on and there have been plenty of ups and downs. After a strong start we got a little overconfident, spent too much money, focussed on the wrong things, and learnt some hard lessons along the way. But we did manage to send thousands of gifts and raise over £6,000 for foodbanks (including KXC’s) when they needed it most. In the past 6 months James left to go back to Uni, I relocated the business to Lancaster and hired an old friend of mine (Jordan) to take on daily operations and grow the business moving forward as it looks to continue championing independent businesses and supporting local causes making a big impact.
