Mentoring through making

Mentoring through making

A mentoring support service for young men to influence & inspire them to positively contribute into their communities.

Initial inspiration

This started by me trying to rebalance my work-life balance, which lead to me taking up guitar making as a hobby. I found that I was passionate about doing this, even at 40 years old!

My venture started with the realisation that I appear to be able to make reasonable instruments. I had made a promise with God that if I was any good at this, I would use this talent to support other less advantaged people

How it all started

The idea of Mentoring Through Making was born out of a desire to help young men involved in gangs or part of the criminal system.

The vision is to provide a mentoring support services through making to young boys/men to influence and inspire them to positively contribute into their communities. To give them hope for their future, and
give them the skills access and resources to find employment and become beacons to their piers

Memorable highs along the journey

The repeated excitement and encouragement received from practically everyone who is told about the idea.

The realisation that unless God is central to this venture failure is guaranteed has been really liberating. Therefore, fear of failure is simply not an issue making connections with other like minded people and organisations has become a necessary welcome part of the journey.
