What does a culture of pioneering look like in our churches?
It can be a time full of vision & excitement, where your passions, gifting & calling collide.
But it’s also an incredibly vulnerable moment, and at times lonely.
If you are exploring an idea that pursues social justice, care for God’s creation, or a new creative expression, then we’d like you to know that you’re not alone and we invite you to journey with others in community.
We believe in the renewal of all things.
Ever since Genesis, we’ve been given the mandate by God to shape culture and to steward His creation.
The church is the beating heart pumping to the organs in society; Media, Education, Arts & Entertainment, Business, Social Sector & Healthcare.
These all need redeeming. As believers of this calling, we should be leading the way by ushering in the Kingdom of God, announcing that it is indeed near.
We're exploring what a culture of pioneering should look like in our churches
How can church play a role in the renewal of all things in every area of society?
How can we learn from those who have courageously started ventures pursuing social justice and care for God’s creation?
Are there practices I can adopt in my own life to support me as I pioneer?
In Acts 6 we read about the appointment of the seven by the Apostles to run the church’s first venture, a foodbank.
So the Twelve called a meeting of all the believers. They said, “We apostles should spend our time teaching the word of God, not running a food program. And so, brothers, select seven men & woman who are well respected and are full of the Spirit and wisdom. We will give them this responsibility. Then we apostles can spend our time in prayer and teaching the word.” > Acts 6
The early church saw explosive growth, and although the Bible doesn’t speak more into it, you can imagine a thriving venture playing a pioneering role in partnership with the church, serving the most vulnerable and marginalised in society.
But the church didn’t stop there.
The church played a role in the origins of the printing press, irrigation, beer, and public schooling to name a few.
In the early 18th Century the Quaker movement saw a flurry of pioneers; Cadbury made hot chocolate to tackle the addiction to Gin. The Barclay family were trustworthy and made financing accessible to those who weren’t wealthy.
What was it about these pioneers that saw their faith put into action?
How can we cultivate this level of faith today in our churches?
Who will start a venture that will shake culture for the next 100 years?
We can all play a role in some way...
... you may already be walking out a pioneering journey, tell us about your venture, the story that lead you to take your first steps of faith, and the help you need.
... you may be feeling a prompting to start an idea God has given you, and would like to explore this idea further.
... you may have time or a skill you'd like to offer to support someone on their journey.
